Copy vs Re-encode

Fast trim copies video packets without decoding. It is instant but can only cut at keyframe boundaries, so the actual start may shift ±2 seconds. Precise trim re-encodes every frame, giving exact millisecond accuracy at the cost of processing time.

Keyframe Alignment

Videos store complete frames (keyframes) every 1-5 seconds, with intermediate frames only storing differences. Fast trims work best near keyframe boundaries. If your cut lands between keyframes, the browser may shift the start slightly to the nearest decodable frame.

Lossless Copies

When you trim with copy mode and keep the original format, no quality is lost — the video data is literally copied byte-for-byte into a new container. This is the only 100% lossless way to trim video.
Pro Tip: Use fast copy-mode for rough cuts and social media clips where ±1 second drift does not matter. Use precise mode only when you need frame-accurate edits for professional work.
